7 STUD POKER

7 STUD POKER

Stud poker is more of a “pure” poker variant that was famous before Texas Hold’em. It is a simple game but demands more attention and skill.

How to play?

7 Card stud poker is played with 2-8 players. It is a game of simple and minimum rules but does have few quirks.

7 Card stud poker has 4 phases in it.

  1. Setup
  2. The Bring
  3. Betting Rounds
  4. Showdown

Once the cards are shuffled among the players they need to ante (dead money - they go into the pot)

The game starts with the player at the dealer’s left and moves clockwise.

Betting round 1 (Third Street)

Players have 3 choices in this round.

  1. Pay nothing and throw your hands away and wait for the next round. This is called “Fold”.
  2. Place an amount matching the bring. This is called “Call”.
  3. Increase the betting amount. This is called “raise”.

Betting round 2 (Fourth Street)

When the first betting is over, the dealer deals with each player clockwise, 1 card face up.

Next in the betting, (all others to follow) the player with the highest value show card acts first.

Then, the action continues clockwise around and the players can choose from the following actions.

  1. Check (if no bet has been made).
  2. Call (match bet made).
  3. Bet/Raise (raise by adding an additional amount to the bet).
  4. Fold (throw away the hand).

Betting round 3 (Fifth Street)

After the fourth street, the dealer deals another card face up, moving clockwise.

Once all cards are dealt, the betting round begins and the player with the highest show cards bets first.

In this betting round, players use the big betting limit.

Betting round 4 (Sixth Street)

Sixth street is similar to the fifth street. One card face up, and the player with the highest value show cards bets first. Sixth street betting uses a big betting limit.

Betting round 5 (Seventh Street)

The dealer deals one last card face down to every player and moves on clockwise.

The player with the highest rank show-card in the previous round is the first to act. The final betting round uses the big betting limit.

Showdown

Once all betting rounds are completed. In the showdown, each player has to make the best five cards in hand possible out of their seven cards.

The player with the best five-card wins.
