What is Texas Omaha?
Omaha Poker was derived from Texas Hold’em poker. It tests players’ skills more than other poker game variants. Each player is dealt 4 cards in the game out of which 2 and only 2 have to be used to make your best 5 card combination. As the community cards open like Texas Hold’em, players can use only 3 of them to make their best hand.
Types of Omaha Poker Games
- Pot Limit Omaha Poker - Players can bet what is in the pot.
- No Limit Omaha Poker - Players can bet any amount, up to all of their chips.
- Fixed Limit Omaha Poker - Specific betting limit followed in each game and on each round of betting.
How to Play Omaha Poker?
Basic Strategies
The games Pot limit and Non-limit, are completely based on the blinds. Once the big blind is placed, the betting starts.
The big blind placed in the fixed limit Omaha is the same as the small bet. The small blind needs to be half or more than the size of the big blind.
Once the player is dealt with 4 hole cards, betting begins clockwise.
Pre-Flop
After handling the hole cards, the player has to make a decision of fold, call or raise.
The Flop
Once the first betting round is complete, the flop is dealt face up - 3 community cards are available. After this, another round of betting follows.
The Turn
After the round of betting, the 4th community card is dealt face up which is followed by a round of betting again in the clockwise direction.
The River
The river is when the fifth and final community card is dealt face up. It is followed by the final round of betting by the active players in the clockwise direction.
The Showdown
If more than one player is active after the completion of the final betting round, the player with the best set of 5 cards wins. In the event of similar cards or equal hands, the pot is divided among the players with the best hand.
